This guide is created for department chairs, faculty, and staff working with students needing accommodations.

Speech-to-Text Tools and Devices

Most of these programs are freeware.  In some cases, users can utilities for a specified period of time or for a specified number of trials for free. Once you have reached the limit, you will need to register the program and pay for a licensed copy in order to continue use.

Braina- Multi-language speech recognition software with the ability to dictate in any third party software or to fill forms on websites. Apart from dictation, Braina also provides voice command features that allows you to search the web, open file, programs & websites, find information, set reminders, take notes and much more. Free trial, but subscription may be required.

Free Voice to Text-A speech recognition software tool that converts voice into text. Users talk to the computer and the software types the text. This free tool can be downloaded and used for presentations, books and various other formats. 

Speechlogger- Speech recognition & instant voice translation web app that emphasizes natural speech by auto punctuating. It features auto-punctuation, timestamps,auto saves, transcribes audio files, phone conversations and exports to captions.

Speech Pad- Speech to text on any web site and in Windows and Linux applications.

VoiceNote II- This app allows typing with your voice and speech recognition. Simple and functional notepad.
